About Event

We’re excited to welcome you on Friday, November 7th for our second Under the Moon event this fall — a gathering of climate art, science & action every full moon, open to anyone 🌕

This moon, we are hosting media artist Sarah Nelson Wright and researcher Mary Zaradich, whose talks will explore the interaction of the city with its natural environments — or perhaps, the city as a living environment in itself —

Sarah will share creative projects that use public art, interactive media, and emerging technologies to engage with environmental issues in New York City.  Projects range from virtual reality sculptures at the waterfront, to an emotional vending machine, to a video-equipped model boat pond on a superfund site.

Mary will be discussing her previous research with the NASA Goddard Institute on Urban Heat Island mitigation strategies in New York City. Urban Heat Islands (UHIs) are more likely to occur in low income and BIPOC communities due to historic redlining, and in her talk Mary will also discuss how these communities have become leaders in developing strategies of UHI mitigation, their effectiveness, and barriers to implementation.

Join us on Nov 7, 6-8pm at Chan Space New York to discover anew the city where we live 🌃

ABOUT HERE ON EARTH

Here On Earth is an environmental arts initiative at GFLP in NYC for anyone who cares about the planet. We collaborate with artists, scientists, and activists to host interdisciplinary conversations, film screenings, exhibitions, and other public programming that reconnect urban communities with the nature around and within us.

We also partner with schools and educators to offer filmmaking fellowships and workshops for students of all ages. Our goal is to nurture youth as climate storytellers—using film as a powerful tool to drive imagination and action toward a more resilient future.
